And more!!!
B. S. Johnson Variety Store was started 62 years ago in a small building (since demolished) with three jars of candy and a peanut parcher. As a J.R. Watkins company salesman Broadus, Sr. had run out of room at the home to store products for his door-to-door business. Thus, the first store was used as a warehouse and store. Mrs. Caseline Johnson stayed at the warehouse most of the time each day to receive deliveries and supplies. Then as wholesalers were located, toys and other five and dime items were added to the stock. In 1950, Mrs. Caseline and her son Broadus Jr. developed their own chili recipe (Broadus, Jr. was the taster) and began selling the hot dogs which are sold today. After the death of his parents Broadus and his wife Ann continued to run a true variety store at its present location. Ann died in 1991and in 1994 Broadus married Lona Harris. This store still has everything that you can’t find at any other store, so try them first. Broadus certainly appreciates his customers’ business and friendship, but friendship most of all. |
